THE PTA OF JAMIACA CHILDREN'S SCHOOL
The objectives of the association are to provide support and resources to the school for the benefit and educational growth of the children; to develop a cooperative working relationship between the parents and staff of our school; to develop parent leadership and build capacity for greater involvement; to foster and encourage parent participation on all levels; and to provide opportunities and training for parents to participate in school governance and decision-making.

JCS Families join your PTA on Friday, January 29 at 6pm for a Fun showing of "DoLittle".
The PTA will be outside at Arrival and Dismissal for in person sign up and for Families who sign up in advance to receive a Movie Snack to enjoy during the show.

My name is Sharmin Akther and I have both a fifth grade & first grade student at JCS. I am housewife from BANGLADESH 🇧🇩I'm Bengali. I want to help our PTA do their best!
My goal is to help the school get better and better!
Nathifa Lewis is originally from Grenada, but has lived in NYC for the past 2 decades. She is a mother of 3, with twin daughters currently at JCS in 5th Grade. She is passionate about Education, Technology and Culture. She currently works with the City of NY as a Certified IT Developer, and Pace University as an Adjunct Professor. Though new to the JCS community, she is excitedly looking forward to collaborating with Parents and Teachers as PTA Co-President. Together she believes we can best support all of our children at JCS.
My name is Denicia Hazell and I am excited to serve as your newly elected PTA Secretary for the 2020-2021 school year at JCS. I was born in the beautiful Caribbean island of Trinidad and Tobago. I migrated to the United States of America and resided in Jamaica Queens, New York. I resided on Guy R. Brewer Boulevard which is close to the location of JCS. As a child, I attended The New Preparatory Middle School- I.S. 8 and graduated as the valedictorian of my class. I attended Bard High School Early College and graduated with a High School Regents Diploma and an Associates Degree in Liberal Arts. I attended CUNY York College and graduated with a dual degree. I was awarded a Bachelors of Science and a Masters of Science in Occupational Therapy.
I began my career working as a full time occupational therapist in a long term care facility working with the geriatric population. I also worked part time as an occupational therapist in a sensory gym with the pediatric population. At the long term care facility, I served as an Evaluating and Treating Occupational Therapist, Senior Therapist/ Supervisor of the 4th floor OT Rehab Gym, Rehab Scheduler, and Fieldwork Coordinator. Currently, I am employed with the Department of Education (DOE) as a Related Service Provider providing school-based occupational therapy services to the elementary population K-5 both in a community school and in a D75 school. In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with my family, completing arts and craft activities with my daughter, and visiting new restaurants. I enjoy partying with my family and friends. During the summer, I enjoy visiting new countries with my family. My favorite place visited thus far is Morocco.
My daughter is a little Jaguar in the first grade. This is her first year attending JCS. I am excited to serve the JCS community as a PTA member and I look forward to collaborating with you all to increase parent engagement, to increase parent voice, and to provide parents with information, resources, and support to benefit our students' growth during this unique school year.
Ashley Carroll was born and raised in Queens, NY. Her entire family is from the United States. She has lived 2 blocks away from JCS for most of her life. Ms. Carroll has a Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing. She is a Registered Nurse, working as an assistant manager for one of New York City’s largest home hospice organizations. Her Son is a 4th grade student at JCS. Ms. Carroll’s top priority is to work along with Parents and Teachers to continue to make JCS a great environment to learn and grow.
